DEATH

I just found out that my neighbor's granddaughter died yesterday in a car accident. My neighbor is a little old woman who I have known my whole life. Her husband passed away several years ago, her brother came and stayed with her, but he died, and now this. Please pray for her. She is so sweet.

OVER THE HUMP

Saw the movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." It was better than I thought it would be. But the best part was when my girlfriend got busted up over this part and could not stop giggling. I mean, giggling way after the joke was funny. It was so great. This is some practice from George B. Bridgman's books. I have one drawing but I want to post it after I ink it. Talk to you tomorrow; I've got some theology youtube videos to watch. Peace and love to you. Yeah, you. I mean it. I love you. It's here to stay man. I don't care if this reminds you of the ending to "Ghostbusters 2" when Ray is covered in positive slime...I love you.

A is for Adam and Adam wants to quote Ghostbusters
"You don't sleep with it do you Ray?"
(Awkward silence)
"Jeez. It's always the quiet ones."

"You just fell for the OLLLLLLLLLLD man-eating toaster trick."

WALK ACROSS THE ROOM

Today was amazing. Work was normal, but I got to listen to a sermon from Dr. John Marshall from Second Baptist and a sermon from Rob Bell from Mars Hill. One dealing with unity within the body/family of Christ and the other was about Christ's compassion for the hurting. Incredible. Both of these messages have inspired me in different ways. But they both inspired me to talk to this guy from the Mud House about his shirt which in turn was a band which I am now listening to (The Mars Volta), and they are good.

Then I saw a girl I went to school with and I talked to her a bit. Then I saw two very close friends I used to run around with and we caught up for about an hour. THEN, I got to hang out with some new friends and chat about freaking old cartoons like "Ghostbusters" and "Motorcycle Mice from Mars." Now I'm hanging out with my girl and playing Sega. I know it might sound weird, but this was a very fufilling, purposeful, relaxing day. Thank you God. Enjoy the practice sketch and pen and Ink of which I don't know where I pulled it from in my head. Goodnight all.

SHALLOW

After studying the great comic masters of the present and past one thing is clear, I need to have a better command of the human form. So probably for the next month or so you will see a lot of nude figure drawings on my blog.

Which reminds me of when I was a freshman and I finished my art project early in class and I was looking through art books. Back then I was what you would consider a "superchristian." Which basically is a legalistic approach to an intimate God. I have since reconsidered what it means to follow Christ. But, I was flipping through the pages and was appalled by the nudity. I even mentioned it to my teacher because I couldn't believe she had these books in class where anyone could pick it up and see the nude figures. This is what she said to me, "flip the page." Basically she was telling me to get over it. I did. Hope your legs aren't too tired from walking down memory lane with me. Enjoy your beautiful day today.

PRACTICE CONT.

Okay. I haven't posted too much this past weekend because I have been working on a large Design project for my Church (LifePoint Church) and I don't know if I can post the sketches. Also, I have been working on Kevin Leigh Watkins and I's comic too, and I can't post the sketches yet either.

Yesterday was awesome for me. I worked out (which I rarely make time to do), studied the first four chapters of Matthew which I've read a bunch of times but it still was challenging to me, and Paige, Patrick and I had some old school bating practice at the part by the neighborhood pool. We tried to go swimming afterwards but sadly we were refused entry because we are not members.

Check this out. This completely blew my mind. On Saturday Kevin Leigh Watkins and I were having a meeting about our graphic novel project. Before the meeting we ran a few arrands and hung out. Apparantly Kevin knows everyone and their mother in Springfield and we stopped by his friend's house to check on him because he recently moved because of flood damage. His friend's name is Dan and Dan used to own a local comic book store in town.

He was very nice and gas us a tour of the new home. As we were there he showed us some original comic art pieces from Philip Tan, Mike Hoffman, Rick Burcham, and Ed Benes. I'm talking the original board that is turned in to be printed. Amazing stuff. He had sweet commisions from these artists as well. Mind blowing stuff.

Over the last day or so I have had my nose in the new "Astonishing X-Men" graphic Novel. The writing is incredible. There are twists and turns around every page and the characters are nailed to a tee when it comes to dialogue and action. I have also been reading "Y The Last Man." Very intriging. I recommend both of these.

PRACTICE

More practice but some exciting stuff to spill.

DRY

Hello all. This picture is inspired by a few things. One, God's word that I read this morning. Two, this book I bought yesterday for $3.00 titled "American Paper Dolls." What a steal. Third, last night Paige and I went folk dancing here in town. In case you are not sure what folk dancing is just reference the movie "A Knight's Tale" or "Pride and Prejudice." The type of interchanging dance done with twirls, lines, and courtesy turns. It was super cool in my opinion. You have a partner but you end up holding hands and twirling with everyone. Everyone was chill and a few of the more experienced dancers you could tell had a ton of fun.

Oh, and this week during a frightening storm Paige, her brother, and I were locked in a Toy'R'Us. That's never happened to me before. But don't think I've never wanted it to happen before.

Just a couple of drawings from yesterday. More to come tonight. Popcorn is so good. I just watched "Jumper" and it surprised me. A good see in my freaking red leather note book of movies that must be viewed.

COMPEL

Okay, first off this day has been great. I work a sweet company and once every month they have the renown "Goodie Day." Everyone in the office brings treats and we all pig out and complain about diets. Rarely have I left work with a frown on my face on such a day as "Goodie Day."

This passage of scripture has been swimming in my head all day. 2 Corinthians 5:11-6:2. It's is a beautiful passage that, to me, shows the down to earth heart transformation and passion of Paul to unbelievers. It has challenged me to expand my heart in the same fashion, but also to actually believe God can move and change any heart. "I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation." (2Cor.6:2) Think about that and try not to nap!

I'm writing this now so I can scan my work later. More drawings to come.

NO WORRIES

Today has felt like a train, smoothly shooting down the tracks. My time has been consumed with one thing or another. Yet, I understand its purpose. So, there is nothing to worry about. Just have to keep on trekking.

Thank you Zach for your post. It has been fantastic to worship with you and finally get to talk to you.

This drawing is a college of three random pictures. Two of which I just picked off the internet. Hope you like it.

FATHER'S DAY

Happy Father's Day to all. This morning my family and I rocked out to praise tunes at Brand New Church in Harrison AR. The whole thing was like a concert, or for the religiously inclined it was like Church Camp. For all who care too much about what style of music to worship to just think about love. These people, the whole congregation was loving and dying to know my family and I. That is what truly matters.

For me, I dress down to go to Church. I feel that God looks at the heart and mine is only wanting to be authentic with him. Coming to Jesus as I am and nothing more. How many times in the Bible were people criticized for hearts and not what they were doing? How many times did God have to speak through a prophet and condemn his people because of their hearts? They were still "doing" the Godly things like offering sacrifices and celebrating significant religious holidays, but they did them out of routine. Something's changing in me.

I saw a, what appeared to be, homeless man standing at and exit off the highway tonight. I wanted to give him money, but I thought it would only solve his symptom of homelessness. So what can I do to solve the problem of his homelessness? I can talk with him, buy him some food, listen, give him a blanket, try to give advice. I wish I had a business where I could give him a job, but that is not my lot in his life. What is? What am I supposed to do, and do I have what it takes to see to it till it's over?

INK

I finally got some time today to ink a few drawings I've been working on this week. Tomorrow is Father's Day and we are heading to Harrison AR. I enjoy our few trips there because of how small and homey it feels. The Peacock picture is my girlfriend's challenge for me this week. Enjoy.

DUMP

I love my job because I answer calls during the day, and I get to draw between calls. Today I made a Birthday card for one of my supervisors. We both share a common interest in Napoleon Dynamite. I've been drawing for the last couple of days, but everything is so gosh darn light that it doesn't pick up on my scanner. So, I will finish them with ink. White Water, Godmother's party, Kite Runner, LPC GD, and good old sleep.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE

Last night was amazing. I mowed my backyard (snorfest), but I really enjoy mowing. I listen to music, dream about being a superhero, or brainstorm a project or short story, or I pray. It is a very peaceful time. After that though Paige (my fantstical girlfriend of a year and nine months) and I went to Barnes 'n'Noble. I love it. The only problem was we only got an hour and a half of time to be there before they closed. I was reading these two books, one was about the process of Inking a drawing by Klaus Janson, and the other was how to draw and ink Crime Noir. Both were very insightful.

When I got home I posted my last drawing and Paige decided to give me a challenge. To test my drawing skills without looking at references (which I do constantly) she will ask me to create something from my own wits. This challenge is to draw a woman from the renaissance, or a gypsy. The post will come later today.

CHEEZ-IT

Check this out; my girlfriend's brother's house was crudely disturbed this morning. A drunken bum climbed into their band room window. Nothing was stolen and the bum left without incident. I also found out that a friend of mine is using meth. A scary subject that I do not want another friend to go through.

Today's drawing is inspired by a small moment on my way to work. I stopped to help a poor innocent turtle out of the road. But as I tapped on its shell to safely transport it to the grass it HISSED AT ME. So this is a snapping turtle giving me the bird.

The Fountain

This drawing is inspired by the sweet song from The Fountain. Check out the movie and soundtrack. Swimming with friends, biscuits and gravy, chocolate ice cream, inspiration, and dragging eyelids. Thank you God.

Alas

I was feeling a little nautical today.

A is for Adam and Adam is fat and happy

Wow

So, for the most part my life is awesome right now. Why? Because I feel useful. Been connecting with an old friend, drawing everyday, going to WhiteWater, Avatar parties, Church activities, and Graphic Design with a great friend. This is yesterday's drawing. Be back for today's. Now I'm going to see my sweets and hopefully end up at Borders or Barnes 'n' Noble - two of my favorite places to soak up art and knowledge. Love.
